Man fighting for life after A77 breakdown hit and run

He was knocked down as he tried to help friends at the roadside

A man's fighting for life in hospital after a hit an run incident as he was helping friends stranded following a breakdown on the A77 near Kilmarnock.

A 31-year-old is in a critical condition in hospital in Glasgow after the incident on Saturday, 18 February.

Around 7.05pm he was assisting friends to move a broken-down silver BMW one series on the northbound carriageway, when he was struck by a dark-coloured saloon car. The car did not stop.

Critical condition

Police and Ambulance attended and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where hospital staff describe his condition as critical.

Sergeant Kenny Malaney of the Road Policing Unit based in Govan said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to trace the dark-coloured car involved and its driver.

“At the time of the incident, there was a red Volkswagen Golf parked behind the trailer. The trailer was being towed by a Mercedes GLC. If you passed by, please get in touch with officers as you may have information that will assist this investigation."
