Arran Ferries cancelled today with engine problems in latest ferry fiasco
Services between Ardrossan and Brodick are cancelled today after the MV Caledonian Isles reported engine problems.
A number of ferries between the mainland of Scotland and Arran have been cancelled today in the latest disruption to Calmac's ageing ferry fleet.
The ferry operator announced on Monday evening via social media and say the disruption is down to an engine problem.
Engineers are now expected further investigate the problems with the Port Main Engine, but there has been no indication of when the services will resume.
Six scheduled sailings have been cancelled so far between Ardrossan and Brodick. The sailings cancelled are the 7am, 9:45am, and 1230:pm services from Ardrossan, and the 8:20am, 11:05am, and 1:55pm services from Brodick.
Two services were also cancelled last night after near-record high temperatures brought visitors in their thousands to the west coast of Scotland.
It comes a week after a new freedom of information request revealed the extent of rising maintenance costs as the ageing fleet grows older.
Repairs to some of the nearly 40-year-old ferries have tripled in the last decade, with last years costs being reported as more than £28m compared to the £11m in 2011.
The two new vessels set to replace some of the older ferries are currently being built at Ferguson Marine in Port Glasgow
However, they are several years late and more than double their original budget.
