Attempted murder probe launched after man seriously injured in Greenock disturbance

A disturbance in Greenock that left three men needing hospital treatment is being treated by police as attempted murder.

Officers were called to a report of a disturbance in Nelson Street, Greenock shortly before 1am on Sunday.

Two men, aged 20 and 42 were taken by ambulance to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where the 20 year-old man is being treated for face and arm injuries. The 42 year-old man is being treated for a head injury. Hospital staff describe their condition as stable.

A 24-year-old who was also taken to hospital is being treated for a head injury and hospital staff describe his condition as serious.

The assault on him is being treated as attempted murder.

Detective Sergeant Alex Allardyce of Greenock Police Office is appealing for any witnesses. He said:

“At this time, extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish more details on the circumstances surrounding the disturbance. Officers are following a number of lines of enquiry and I would urge any witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist the police investigation to contact Greenock Police Office through 101.
