A man remains in critical condition after being struck down by a car in North Ayrshire.

Police are appealing for information after a serious road crash involving car and a 25-year-old pedestrian on Eglinton Street, Beith at the weekend.

The incident happened around 12:10am on Sunday 26 February.

The 25-year-old man was crossing Eglinton Street when he was struck by a Honda Civic being driven by a 19-year-old man.

Emergency services attended and the injured pedestrian was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where staff describe his condition as critical.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: “I believe that the area was quite busy at the time of the crash with people leaving the nearby pubs. I would ask anyone who witnessed to this crash, who has not yet spoken to police, or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact us.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area who may have dash-cam footage.

“Information should be passed to Road Policing Officers through 101 quoting reference number 0046 of 26 February.”
