There are calls for the Scottish Government to step in and find new owners for Scotland's only indoor snow slope at XSite in Braehead.

Snow Factor is closed until further notice after the company went into liquidation last year.

The venue claimed to be home to the longest indoor slope in the UK and offered various winter sports activities including ice climbing, skiing and snowboarding.

An online petition has been started by a group of concerned parents, who are urging new owners to come forward.

The campaign, titled Save XSite Snow Scotland, believes the future of snow sports are in doubt as the facility provided opportunities to children across Scotland.

'We can fight to keep it alive'

Malcolm Marr, who is leading the campaign, said: "Last year, the venue was forced to shut its doors after the previous company faced financial difficulties.

"Now, the impending loss of this popular ski and snowboard destination looms over Scotland's community. But together, we can fight to keep it alive.

"We have taken to social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, where we have created the 'SaveXSitesnowScotland' campaign.

"Through these channels, we are raising awareness about the imminent threat to this cherished venue and mobilising both businesses and the public to join the cause.

'Time is of the essence'

"Time is of the essence, as the window to save this venue for Scotland and future generations is rapidly closing.

"We are reaching out to individuals and organisations who can lend their expertise and support to find a sustainable business model that will help the venue achieve its net-zero targets.

"This is Scotland's only indoor ski slope - we don't have another option after this, so we need this to go to national level."

'It would grow the sport'

Fellow parent and campaigner Lorraine Prosser added: "A lot of kids out there don't think there's much out there for them other than football and gymnastics.

"If they could use this facility again, it'd be fantastic and would grow the sport even more.

"There's a lot of interest in this, it's not just here in Glasgow.

"Skiers and snowboarders from Aberdeen, Dundee, Dumfries and Edinburgh travel here to use the slope - it shows how well used it was."
