Toddler hit by car at busy Greenock junction

The two-year-old was rushed to hospital in Glasgow

A TODDLER has been rushed to hospital after being knocked down by a car at a busy junction in Greenock this afternoon.

The incident happened on East Hamilton Street at the junction with Douglas Rae Road, near the James Watt Dock Marina.

Emergency services raced to the scene when the alarm was raised around 3.50pm.

Police confirmed a two-year-old was rushed by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow for treatment. The child's condition is not yet known.

The road between Ratho Street and Sinclair Street has been closed and diversions are in place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received report of a two-year-old child having been struck by a car on East Hamilton Street at the junction with Douglas Rae Road in Greenock around 3.50pm on Sunday, 29 August, 2021.

"The child has been taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. The road is closed between Ratho Street and Sinclair Street.”
