Clyde 1's 50th birthday celebrations are continuing with a special mention in the Scottish Parliament.

Pam Gosal from the Scottish Conservatives is submitting a motion congratulating us on reaching a huge milestone.

She says it's a chance to recognise the station for keeping people entertained and informed over the last five decades.

Congratulatory motion

The motion asks that the Parliament "congratulates Clyde 1 Radio, based in Clydebank, on celebrating its 50th anniversary on December 31st 2023.

"Notes that the station first went on air at 10.30 pm on Hogmanay 1973, broadcasting on 261 metres medium wave.

"Understands that the purpose-built studios were opened in 1983, and that in 1986, the new HQ was graced by a visit from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"Acknowledges that many presenters went on to become household names, including 'Tiger' Tim Stevens, Paul Coia, Jackie Bird and George Bowie, who recently celebrated 25 years at the station.

"Notes that supporters of the station in its early days included luminaries Sir Sean Connery, Sir Jackie Stewart, and Lord Gordon of Strathblane.

"Welcomes that the station's Cash For Kids appeal has, it understands, so far raised £2.6million and supported over 74,000 children."

And finally, the motion asks that the Scottish Government "wishes the entire team at Bauer Media every success over the next 50 years."

'When I hear radio - the word that follows is Clyde'

Pam told us: "I remember myself listening to Radio Clyde in my father's very cold Warehouse and we're talking about 30 years on - I speak to my nephew this morning and he says I can't wait to hear George Bowie on Radio Clyde.

"My 11-year-old nephew was excited about me coming here because he wondered if I'd see George and other famous faces.

"There's nobody I could speak to who wouldn't know what Radio Clyde is.

"Every time somebody speaks to me about radio - the word that follows is always Clyde in my head.

"Thank you very very much for keeping us all updated and informed - but also entertained in our on way as well.

"Thank you for supporting so many people through Cash For Kids.

"So when the motion goes through, it goes to every single MSP in the Scottish Parliament no matter what party they're from because I'm looking for support on this motion."
