Rainbow Nursery in Paisley is due to stay open, despite threats of closure.

Last Tuesday 3 March, parents of children who attend the community nursery were called into a meeting by staff to tell them the news that the nursery was due to lose its funding and would be closing its doors in June.

Rainbow Nursery is funded through Childcare First, which relies on money from Renfrewshire council.

68 families were affected by the news last week.

However, in Renfrewshire council's budget yesterday it was agreeed £150,000 would be used to support Rainbow Nursery in Shortroods, while the council work with Childcare First to support its long-term future.

Suzanne Walsh, who has a 2-year old daughter who attends, said:

"I'm so grateful to Clyde 1 - the feedback we had from it was absolutely amazing.

"People were talking about it in their work places and it was a good way to start to get our story out about the nursery closure.

"The parents were absolutely over the moon - we were ecstatic when we heard that news.

"I for one wasn't expecting that to happen so everybody was over the moon.

"It just makes a big difference in everybody's lives that this nursery's kept open legistically as well - for parents who work, for parents who don't work or who don't drive.

"The fact that this is being kept open is absolutely amazing and it'll make a big difference."
