Driver killed on M74 after car crashes into tree

A driver has died after crashing into a tree in the central reservation of a motorway.

The accident happened on the M74 near Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, at about 11.15am on Wednesday, causing the partial closure of the motorway.

Police said a 47-year-old man was driving a Ford Mondeo north when it apparently went out of control and collided with a tree on the central reservation near to junction eight. The driver died at the scene.

A report is to be sent to the procurator fiscal and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
