Friends are paying tribute to 22 year old Craig McClaren, who was killed on Wednesday night in a crash on the A74 near Ecclefechan.

The serving British Army soldier - from Eastriggs - was driving with three passengers, a 19 year old girl, a 16 year old girl and a 17 year old boy who were all treated in hospital.

Our reporter Joseph Gartly spoke exclusively with Jordan Wilkins, who described Craig as the best friend you could have.

“I’ve lost the one thing that brought me happiness.

“He’d bend over backwards for anybody, he would help anybody, if you were short on money to get home on a night out, he’d come pick you up.

“He would look out for you, he would tell you right from wrong and show you not to make the mistakes he’d made.

“I think that’s what’s made a lot of people who they are, the way he’s helped them because he helped everybody individually.

“He will be sadly missed by everyone, everyone that’s been in his life.
