Leaders from across the political spectrum have sent messages of good luck to Rangers ahead of one of the most historic nights in the club’s history.

The Ibrox side take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final in Seville, as they look to claim European silverware for the first time in 50 years.

Boris Johnson opened Prime Minister’s Questions with a message to Rangers, telling MPs in the Commons: “I know that members across the house will want to join me in offering our best wishes to Rangers for this evening’s match in Seville.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted a good luck message, as did Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross.

The Europa League final comes just over a decade after Rangers entered administration, followed by liquidation, resulting in the club dropping down to the fourth tier of Scottish football.

Around 100,000 fans have made the journey to the Spanish city, with the vast majority set to miss out on a ticket for the match and instead watch it in fanzones, bars and clubs across Seville.

One supporter who has managed to get his hands on a ticket is 87-year-old Alan, who’s been to every final involving Rangers in Europe since 1961.

He told Clyde 1 News Seville tops the lot: “I would say this is something really special, probably best of all.”

“Believe it or not I’m very confident. I think we’re home and dry.”

Other fans haven’t been quite as lucky in trying to get tickets for the final.

Alex has been walking around the city with a sandwich board advertising his need for a ticket on a budget of €500…but seemingly to no avail.

He told Clyde 1 News: “My friend Dale contacted a company in Spain and got the board made.

“Dale was a lot more fortunate than me, he came out yesterday and within 20 minutes he got tickets.

“I’ve been out from half 8 this morning. I’m sunburnt, I need water and I need shade.

“If I don’t get a ticket I’ve enjoyed myself, I’ve met a lot of people, but I’m sticking to my guns, football should be for the fans and they shouldn’t pay any more than that.”
