The boss of Homeless Project Scotland based in Glasgow is telling us he is opening an overnight unit for rough sleepers with nowhere to go in the early hours of the morning.

It will be based on Glassford Street from tonight and hundreds of people are expected to come through the doors in the coming weeks.

Colin McInnes told Clyde 1: "I am anxious our beds will be full from tonight and that we will be turning people away to the pavements because we are at full capacity.

"People are cold, hungry and in despair because their lives are so low.

"Our volunteers are playing the roles of doctors, police officers and nurses just to try to help."

Colin claims the phones are ringing off the hook and the charity can get up to 800 calls every week with people looking for accommodation.

He added: "We have a place of safety, warmth and refuge to bring people in and give them a soft bed for the night."
