A Glasgow woman with an XL Bully is claiming people are avoiding her pet on the street and tougher rules won't stop vicious attacks.

Scotland is set to follow England with news laws meaning people will need a license before being allowed to take the breed home.

Stephanie Connor has had Ammo for the last five months and told Clyde 1: "I've noticed a big difference recently in the way people interact with him.

"When other dogs come towards him he never reacts.

"A lot of people keep their distance now and cross the road."

The First Minister Humza Yousaf announced the change yesterday after a rise in the number of XL Bully owners bringing their dogs north of the border since Westminster's new law.

It has been illegal to breed and sell the dogs in England since December 31.

Stephanie feels anyone across the country wanting a dog should require a licence and take the appropriate training.

She added: "Any animal can be aggressive and the breed is purely getting the blame here.

"The rise in attacks is down to bad breeders and others who do not have the time to dedicate to a dog.

"If you want a bigger breed then you have to be hands on to make sure the dog is properly socialised and a lot of people don't do this.

"If a dog has not been in certain settings then it doesn't know how to behave."
