GP brands Old Firm match go-ahead "disgraceful"
She told Clyde News the health service can't deal with the extra pressure
A GP's telling Clyde News the Scottish Government decision to wait until Monday to cancel mass events is "disgraceful."
Claire McGonagle , a former emergency doctor and now a GP, told us of the pressure the health service is already under without the coronavirus on top.
Sunday's Old Firm game is still set to go ahead at Ibrox, which has a capacity of over 50,000 people.
She said: "These games place more pressure on an already under pressure and understaffed service.
"Now with this outbreak, with PPE requirements and cleaning rooms and ambulances after coronavirus patients and more patients, the NHS is even busier"
Clare's calling on politicians to do more to take control of the virus.
"We in the NHS are doing everything in our power to stop the spread.
"Why are we not stopping mass gatherings now? Who benefits from this match going ahead?"
The SFA and SPFL are due to meet with the Scottish Government to discuss this weekends fixtures.
A spokesman said: "Following the First Minister’s comments regarding plans to restrict public gatherings from next week, we will enter discussions with the Scottish Government to understand the full detail of their plans and the implications for clubs and national sides.
"For the avoidance of doubt, all SPFL games scheduled for this weekend will be proceeding as planned.
It comes as the English Premier League announce they will hold an emergency meeting today, with the Arsenal and Chelsea first-team squads in self-isolation after positive coronavirus tests for Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
