Record-breaking container ship calls in Greenock to load whisky exports
The 300m-long ship carries nearly 7,000 containers
A new record’s been set for the biggest container ship to berth in Greenock.
The 300m long MSC Magnum VII called on Saturday (7th October) to load whisky and other spirt exports destined for Le Harve in France.
The ship, which was launched 20 years can carry 6,750 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units).

While the 75,000-tonne ship may be the largest freighter of its kind to visit, it is only half the size of the biggest cruise ships that tower over the town each summer, docking at the new Ocean Terminal.
A record 89 cruise ships have called on the Clyde in 2023.

Jim McSporran, Port Director, Peel Ports Clydeport said: “Containers are a big part of our offering at The Port of Greenock, so it was really special to welcome such an impressive container vessel to our port for the first time.

“It marks a very exciting phase for The Port of Greenock, with new ship-to-shore cranes due to arrive at the port in the coming months, and a new cruise visitor centre having opened at our facility earlier this summer.”
