UPDATE: Man seriously injured in 'large bulldog' attack

The dog was shot dead by armed police after also going for an officer

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked by a what police are describing as a ‘large bulldog type dog’ in Hamilton.

The dog was shot dead by police after attempting to attack an officer who’d been sent to the scene,

The incident happened in the Tinto View area of the town at 5pm this evening, Tuesday 23rd January.

Initial information released said the man had life-threatening injuries, but was later amended to say he was being treated for serious injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

A second man was injured by the same dog in another incident shortly beforehand in Loudonhill Avenue, and is being treated for minor injuries at Hairmyres Hospital.
