Hundreds of flights between the UK and Italy have been cancelled due to coronavirus.

Bosses at BA and Ryanair have grounded all their services to and from the country.

It follows yesterday's announcement the entire nation would be put into lockdown, with tight restrictions on movement and public gatherings.

Scottish ex-pat Allison Green lives in Le Marche region - which is north east of Rome.

"In terms of the measures they've put in place, they do seem drastic but what they're really trying to do is manage the capacity within the healthcare system which is tight," she said

"They want to avoid as many additional people being affected as they possibly can, so it makes sense for us all to do our bit.

" My husband and I are both here and are retired. What we're doing now is following government measures.

"We want to be as helpful as we possibly can to slow down the spread."

Today a sixth person has died from Covid-19 in the UK.

There are now 27 confirmed cases in Scotland.
