Construction work has started on a new supermarket warehouse in North Lanarkshire that will create up to 360 new jobs.

The Lidl regional distribution centre at Eurocentral will be one of the company's largest in the UK and is expected to be completed by winter 2019.

The relocation will form part of the supermarket's #1.45 billion expansion investment from 2017 to 2018 and will replace its current warehouse in Livingston, West Lothian, which has 429 employees.

All jobs from the Livingston site will be transferred to Eurocentral on its completion, resulting in a workforce of up to 789 people.

Ross Millar, Lidl UK's managing director for Scotland, said: As we continue to invest in our property portfolio and open new stores, it is vital to have the supply chain infrastructure to support this.

Our new distribution centre is, therefore, necessary to secure our future growth in Scotland.

It is equally as important to be able to provide new job opportunities for the local economy in addition to the existing jobs we currently have.

As such, we're incredibly excited to break ground and start the build.'
