Light aircraft crashes near Prestwick airport

Two people have been airlifted to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after a light aircraft crashed in South Ayrshire.

A Coastguard helicopter was called to a field near Prestwick Airport around 4.10pm this afternoon.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.10pm on Tuesday, 23 April, 24 we received a report that a small aircraft with two people onboard had crashed in Monkton.

“Police and Ambulance are in attendance.”

The condition of the people onboard isn’t known.

The A719 is closed at the B739, Monkton, due to the crash, and police are asking drivers to avoid the area.
