Glasgow MSPs are throwing their support behind the Clyde 1 #LightTheWay campaign for safety lighting in the city’s parks with a motion in the Scottish Parliament.

The motion by Labour’s Paul Sweeney backs the aims of the campaign and also calls on the Scottish Government to provide the money required to make parks brighter and safer for all users during the winter months.

Cop26 park safety fears

Clyde 1 launched the #LightTheWay campaign at the start of November when the dangers of unlit pathways were brought home during the Cop26 climate change summit as security road closures forced residents in the west end to divert through Kelvingrove Park as their only route to and from their homes.

Glasgow City Council's policy, until recently, was that parks shouldn't be used at night and that there are technical and environmental difficulties. we see fit.

Since then hundreds of people, charities and groups have told us it’s something that's really important to them to improve safety in Glasgow's parks in the evenings.

Everyone who supports the campaign is being invited to take part in a torch-lit protest in Kelvingrove Park on Friday 10th December at the Stewart Memorial Fountain.
