Margaret McKeich is calling for information to catch her daughter's killer on the day she would have turned 35

The mother of murdered Dunbartonshire schoolgirl Caroline Glachan is making a fresh appeal for information to catch her daughter's killer on what would have been her 35th birthday.

The body of the 14 year old from Bonhill was discovered by the River Leven over 20 years ago and despite a major investigation the case remains unsolved.

Margaret McKeich is telling our Chief Reporter Linda Sinclair about why she continues to speak out despite the pain it causes.

Police Scotland announced last August they were re-examining the evidence in the murder in a bid to solve the case.

They are continuing to sift through over 300 productions and re-examine statements as part of the review of the unsolved murder of 14-year-old Caroline.

Detectives continue to work with forensic scientists at the Scottish Police Authority, who will commence the application of new techniques to any suitable items recovered during the original major enquiry.

The investigation team has received over 200 calls since the re-appeal was launched in August 2016, some of which have provided new information in relation to the identity of the man with the hooded top in the artist impression. These calls are being investigated by detectives.

Independent charity, Crimestoppers has also offered a reward of up to £10,000 for information on Caroline’s murder.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr said, “This is a difficult time for Caroline’s family and her birthday brings back all the pain and sadness of her death. This young girl’s life was tragically taken away from her at the age of 14 and the person responsible is still out there; a coward in the community.

“I’m excited by the response we’ve had since we made the fresh appeal in August but I believe there are people in the local community that have vital information that could help us.

“I echo Margaret’s message. If you know something, no matter, how small, that could help us find Caroline’s killer, please get in touch. She has lived her life without any answers and she deserves some now.”
