The chief executive of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is asking people to refrain from visiting during the coronavirus pandemic.

It's after the area saw an influx of groups of people over the weekend as pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants across the country stayed closed.

Facilities have now been closed from today at the park including toilets and car parks in a bid to prevent people from arriving in large numbers.

Gordon Watson, CEO of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, said:

"We're asking people not to travel to the countryside and not to travel to the national park.

"These visits are not essential travel - if you want to get outdoors we advice you stay home and stay local.

"Over the weekend we've seen really large numbers of people congregating on popular visitor spots in the national park.

"What we've seen is people are not staying two metres apart.

"This is really concerning to local communities where there's a lot of elderly people and there's a real risk that people are spreading the virus into our small rural towns and villages."
