The main road from Greenock to Glasgow has been closed after a fire broke out a meat factory in the early hours.

Scottish Fire and Rescue say 30 firefighters were initially sent to tackle what they called a 'significant fire' at the McKechnie Jess plant.

6 appliances were despatched after they received the first calls at 3.22am.

Some of the crews remain on the scene fighting the fire from outside the building - there have been no casualities.

The A8 has been closed passed the scene and there are long delays on the local roads.

Local routes have been deemed not suitable for lorries or HGV's and police are turning them away.

They're being sent on a 50 mile diversion route along the A78 through Largs.
