A man has been attacked at the side of the road after his black Ford Focus broke down.

On Saturday 6th October at around 7:40pm, the 30-year-old was waiting for a breakdown truck on Airdriehill Road when three men in a silver car pulled up along side him.

After what police are describing as a 'verbal altercation', the three men got out of the car and attacked the man with bladed weapons.

They are being described as men in their 20s and wearing dark clothing.

The three suspects fled the scene and the victim flagged down the driver of a Transit van who then took him to Monklands Hospital.

The victim was treated for a fractured skull.

Detective Constable Emma MacFarlane from Coatbridge CID said: “This appears to have been a random attack which has left the victim with a serious head injury and it is vital that we trace the despicable individuals involved.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Airdriehill Road on Saturday evening and may have noticed three men matching the above description, or anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.

“In particular I would like to ask the driver of the transit van who stopped to assist the victim to please get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Coatbridge CID via 101, quoting incident number 3789 of Saturday 6 October 2018. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be called on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
