Man dies after alleged street shooting in Blantyre

The 26-year-old was rushed to hospital after the incident on Monday, but died a short time later

A man has died after an alleged shooting in a Blantyre Street.

Police were called to a report of a disturbance in Caithness Street at about 5pm on Monday.

A 26-year-old man was injured during the incident, which police believe was a targeted attack.

He was taken to University Hospital Wishaw, where he died a short time later.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of his death.

A police spokesman said: “Around 5pm on Monday August 17, police were called to a report of a disturbance outside an address in Caithness Street, Blantyre, in which it was alleged a firearm had been discharged.

“A 26-year-old man was injured during the incident and was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wishaw where he died a short time later.”

Police said inquiries are continuing and urged anyone with information to contact officers on 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
