A nurse from Lanarkshire has died after falling down stairs and breaking her neck in a tragic accident.

Alison Clark, who was a trauma nurse at Monklands Hospital, suddenly passed away on Saturday after falling down stairs in her Airdrie home.

Tributes have been flooding in by her friends on a GoFundMe page.

Friend Alison Tedford said; "Alison lifted you up when you were sad, made you laugh when you wanted to cry, she was always there whether it be at the end of a phone or in person.

"Her smile lighted up the room, she touched the lives of so many people.

"She shone in her new job as trauma nurse and just loved helping people, she was truly a remarkable nurse and such a clever girl.

"Most importantly Alison was a Mum, a daughter, a sister and an Aunt and her life was filled with joy and pride of her two gorgeous girls.

"She was always talking about them and was so proud of the lovely young ladies they had become.

"She loved her sister dearly and spoke with such joy about her nephews.

"Shine bright my dear friend, when I look to the sky you shall be the shiniest star."

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “On Saturday 10th September, police were notified that a 36-year-old woman died at Monklands Hospital following an incident in a property at Arranview, Airdrie.

“The woman has been formally identified and her relatives have been informed.

“A post mortem is due to take place to establish the exact cause of death, which is not being treated as suspicious.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Ruth Thompson, chief of nursing services at Monklands Hospital, said: “All of Alison’s colleagues at Monklands Hospital are saddened and deeply shocked at the tragic news of her death. Alison was held in the highest regard by staff and patients alike and our sincere and heartfelt sympathy go to her family.”
