Asbestos warning after Nitshill fire

People living in Nitshill on the south side of Glasgow have been warned about the risk of abestos being released from a blaze at a building overnight,

They were told to keep their windows shut this morning, and St Bernard's Primary School is closed, after the fire broke out at the Nitshill Enterprise Centre just before 2.30am.

Plumes of smoke have been billowing from the fire which was visible from across large parts of the city and the high ground to the south as dawn broke.

Six appliances were called to the scene, including two aerial units, after they got the call to a "well-developed'' fire in a single-storey building

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said there have been no casualties but crews are still tackling the flames.

St Bernard's Primary School and Woodacre Nursery will be closed on Thursday due to the incident.

The local authority also urged nearby residents to keep their windows shut.

A stretch between Cleeves Road and Seamill Street has been closed to all traffic and motorists have been urged to expect delays during rush hour.

Some public transport has also been affected.
