Residents in North Lanarkshire are being asked not to dump their rubbish, after hundreds of bags were found outside one of the closed recycling centres.

It's after all Household Waste Recycling Centres in the area closed with immediate effect last Tuesday.

The council posted the pictures of bags lying outside one of the recycling centres saying "you are putting our staff at risk to deal with your selfish behaviour".

Councillor Paul Kelly, Councillor for Motherwell West and Depute Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, said:

"The council was very disappointed by the illegal dumping that took place at some of our household waste recycling centres.

"Our centres had to be closed due to the coronavirus restrictions and for health and safety reasons.

"This selfish behaviour means our staff will now be at risk in having to tidy up this mess.

"We won't tolerate this - we have CCTV at the sites and anybody caught will be fined.

"The normal household bin collections are still taking place so there's no need for this behaviour."
