The trial of a man accused of murdering a Paisley woman who disappeared in 2017 is due to start in Glasgow this week.

The trial of a man accused of murdering a Paisley woman who disappeared in 2017 is due to start in Glasgow this week.

Known to her friends as Patti, 46 year-old Patricia Henry disappeared four years ago.

An arrest was made in July 2019, following an large scale police investigation which also coverage Ayrshire - where she had moved to before her disappearance.

70 year-old George Metcalff is accused of killing the 46 year-old on 17th November 2017.

He is also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice and “concealing and disposing” of her body my means unknown.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting her while she was sleeping in December 2014 and choking her in October 2017.

Other charges against him date back to June 1971 and involve four other women.

This includes the alleged rape of a woman at the Gleniffer Braes, in Paisley, and in Kilbarchan.

Metcalff is alleged to have carried out the same crime on another woman between October 1989 and December 2004.

He is accused of physical assaults on the other two women.

His trial is due to begin at the High Court in Glasgow today and is expected to last around four weeks.

Metcalff denies the charges.
