Police hunt for masked man who sexually assaulted 12-year-old girl on train

It happened on a service travelling between Balloch and Airdrie

A 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a train by a masked man.

The girl was travelling on the 10.08 service from Balloch to Airdrie with her mother and sister when a man sexually assaulted her at about 10.20am on Tuesday July 25.

The suspect is white, of medium build and average height, with short greyish hair and was wearing a black face mask over part of his face.

He was wearing black trousers with a red stripe down the leg and a hooded jacket and Nike trainers, both black.

He was carrying a bin liner and a rucksack, also black.

He is believed to have boarded the train at Dumbarton Central and left at Old Kilpatrick.

British Transport Police said a nearby passenger may have witnessed the assault and are appealing for them to come forward.

The force said: "Did you witness what happened or do you have any information? If so, please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 210 of July 25 2023.

"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
