A police watchdog is to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 51-year-old man near Stirling.

A police watchdog is to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 51-year-old man near Stirling.

The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (Pirc) has announced the probe following the discovery of the man's body on Wednesday February 22.

The investigation will focus on the response of Police Scotland after the force received a telephone call from a member of the man's family on February 20.

A Pirc spokesman said: "The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has instructed the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner to undertake an investigation after the body of a 51-year-old man was discovered at a residential property in Fallin, near Stirling, on February 22, 2017.

"The investigation will focus on the response from Police Scotland to a telephone call made by family on February 20, 2017.

"A report on the commissioner's findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course."
