Glasgow Prestwick Airport employee dies after falling in work

Police say the were no suspicious circumstances to the death

A man has died after falling in work at Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

Police confirmed a 59-year-old man was pronounced dead after emergency services attended an incident in the Ayrshire airport on Wednesday 11 January.

It happened around 12:10pm, with reports suggesting the man was an employee working on a hydraulic platform while a cargo plane was being unloaded.

Police say the were no suspicious circumstances to the death, but have yet to release any information of the mans identity.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.10pm on Wednesday, 11 January, to a report of a man falling at Prestwick Airport.

“Emergency services attended and the 59-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Staff are devastated

A spokesperson for Glasgow Prestwick Airport said: “Glasgow Prestwick Airport can confirm that an employee died following an incident on site on Wednesday 11 January.

“Everyone at the airport is devastated and our thoughts are with the employee’s family and friends at this extremely sad time.

“We are working closely with the relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
