Queensferry Crossing re-opens following ice safety concerns

The Queensferry Crossing has re-opened more than 36 hours after concerns about falling ice forced it to close to traffic.
Several vehicles were struck by debris dropping from the £1.3billion bridge's overhead cables on Monday evening, amid freezing conditions.
It remained closed during all of Tuesday and Wednesday morning while engineers monitored the situation.
Then transport bosses confirmed at 10.45am on Wednesday it would be opening immediately, saying they believed the risk had passed.
Mark Arndt, Account Director for operating company Amey, said: “We thank drivers for their patience and understanding during this closure.
"Safety had to come first, however the data we have gathered has improved our understanding of the issue and will help us to improve predictions and refine operating procedures in future.”
Amey says the bridge will continue to be monitored, with more wintry weather forecast on Wednesday.
It ends a 34-mile diversion for drivers, who've had to use the Kincardine and Clackmannanshire bridges during the closure.
