An online fundraiser has raised tens of thousands of pounds for the family of a Rangers fan who died in Lisbon last week.

25-year-old Thomas McAllister passed away while heading to the UEFA Europa League match against Benfica.

A Just Giving page has now been set up for the young father, with the author writing: "No one should go to away game and not come home.

"Thomas' death has affected and touched so many people and the messages and support have been absolutely unbelievable..

"Keep sharing far and wide and thanks again for your continued support."

So far, more than £20,000 has been raised by more than 700 donors, exceeding the original target of £2,500.

The official cause of Thomas' death has not yet been confirmed by police.

However, an FCDO spokesperson said: “We are providing consular assistance to the family of a British man who has died in Lisbon, and are in contact with Portuguese authorities."
