An 83-year old woman has died in a fire in a flat on the south side of Glasgow.

Fire crews were called to a blaze in a ground floor flat in Annandale Street, in the Shawlands area, at 5.40pm on Sunday.

The woman had died before the fire fighters could get to her.

David Murdoch, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for City of Glasgow, said:

He said: “We were alerted at 5.14pm on Sunday, July 16, to reports of an alarm actuating from a property on Annandale Street.

“Firefighters found the ground floor flat of a four storey tenement building well alight.

“Sadly, an 83 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation underway

“Our thoughts are very much with her family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.

“A joint investigation alongside Police Scotland colleagues is now ongoing.”
