Two men have been charged in connection with a shooting that lead to a bystander's dog being killed.

A 27-year-old man suffered injuries to his back during an attack on January 23 in Brunswick Gardens in Cumbernauld.

A 52-year-old woman who was walking her dog nearby suffered a minor injury to her hand.

The dog - a white Maltichon called Henry - died as a result of the firearm being discharged.

Two men, both aged 23, have now been been reported to the Procurator Fiscal and will appear in court at a later date.

Police said enquiries remain ongoing.

Speaking at the time of the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Gillian Grant, senior investigating officer, said: This was completely reckless and the fact this happened in a residential street shows the suspects had a complete disregard for the safety of the public.

"A woman who was simply walking her dog has been left absolutely devastated.''
