A Wishaw man and his six-year-old son have scrubbed graffiti off a war memorial in a local park.
Steven McGowan saw pictures on Twitter of fascist and white supremacist language that had been spray painted onto the monument at Duchess Park in Motherwell.
It was erected to commemorate 40 volunteers who fought against fascism in the Spanish Civil War during the 1930s.
He said: "I couldn't believe I saw fascist graffiti that had been put onto an anti-fascist war memorial.
"It sickened me to the pit of my stomach when I saw it and made me really angry."
Steven decided to take Junior along to tidy up and used the opportunity to help teach him right from wrong.
He added: "If he sees me down there cleaning up the mess then he'll know that vandalism in general is wrong.
"Also it gave me the chance to explain to him why it has been vandalised and I could tell him about the type of people who did the damage so he could learn why it is all so wrong.
"I think that you need to instill anti-fascist and anti-racist beliefs in your kids from an early age and I hope that he'll continue to hold those views as he gets older."
Steven thinks anyone responsible for that type of vandalism has a lot to learn.
He said: "Bigotry and intolerance just shows a lack of an education.
"I think these people are to be pitied and I actually feel quite sorry for them."
