Woman dies after being struck by a car in Newhouse

Police appeal for witnesses to tragic incident on Glasgow to Edinburgh road

A 67 year-old woman has died after being struck by a car near Newhouse on Saturday, 8 August, 2020.

Around 1.40pm on Saturday afternoon, the 67 year-old woman was crossing the B7066 Glasgow and Edinburgh Road near to its junction with Bothwellshields Road, when she was struck by a grey Seat Alhambra car being driven by a 30 year-old woman.

Police and ambulance attended, however the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her relatives are aware.

The driver of the Seat was uninjured and her passengers - a man and two children - were also uninjured.

Sergeant Craig McDonald of the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell said: “Our investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has any information that may assist our enquiries to contact us. I would also appeal to anyone who was driving on the B7066 around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage to contact us.”
