Whether you're looking for places to walk your dog, spend a sunny day or get the kids out of the house for a bit of fresh air, Glasgow has lots of green spaces to choose from. We've put together a list of some of the best outdoor places to explore in and around the city.
Many cities boast about their parks and green spaces, but did you know that Glasgow translates as ‘Dear Green Place’ in Gaelic? One glance around our spectacular city tells you why!
We have more than 90 parks, each with its own charm; from waterfalls to tropical plants, skate parks to children’s adventure playgrounds, flower beds and duck ponds, and even a castle or two. Our outdoor spaces aren’t just flat and green either, we have woodlands, wetlands, and hills to enjoy.

Rouken Glen
A real favourite amongst families, Rouken Glen is equally attractive as a spot for a romantic wander. You can sit by the boating pond, walk past the waterfall and walled gardens, and check out the various events hosted here.
Victoria Park
Located in the West End of Glasgow, Victoria Park was opened for Queen Victoria's jubilee in 1886. Steeped in history, it hosts World War I and II memorials.
Today visitors can enjoy a model yachting pond, tennis courts, basketball courts, a children's play area, and a fossil grove. With lots of open spaces its a great place for dog walking or a picnic.
Kelvingrove Park
A real favourite with Glaswegians and visitors alike, Kelvingrove Park on the River Kelvin is simultaneously relaxing with a great buzz about it. Choose to meander slowly through the gardens, sit by the fountain or have a more active visit at the skate park, play park or bowling green.
Mugdock Country Park
Mugdock Country Park has it all. Located to the North West of the city, this gem is part park, and part woodland. There are sections of flat pathways, amongst more rugged terrain. Feed the ducks in the pond, try the orienteering course or an adventure trail. Or simply walk and enjoy.
The ruins of Mugdock Castle in the park are always worth a visit and you'll certainly see plenty of dog walkers!
Pollok Country Park
Pollok Country Park is the only country park within Glasgow and is the city's largest park. Home to Pollok House, this expansive rural space also offers delights such as an orienteering course, a wildlife garden and even Highland cows!
Glasgow Botanic Gardens
As you would expect, the Botanic Gardens boasts an array of tropical plants. It sprawls over 50 acres of beautiful parkland in the heart of Glasgow's West End, making it an ideal location for a stroll in the city.
As well as green areas, flowerbeds and a children's play area, the glasshouses make this park an amazing park to visit even if the weather isn't great!
Glasgow Green
Located in the city centre, this is one of Glasgow's oldest parks. With huge green spaces, a large sandy play area and the People's Palace situated in the grounds, it's a great place for a day out.
The huge park is often used as a venue for big events including concerts and festivals.
