6 Year Old Boy Dies In Greenock

He was hit by a car as he was crossing the road last night

A six year old boy has died after being hit by a car in Greenock last night.

It happened when he was crossing Cumberland Road at around 5.15pm.

Ambulance crews took him to Inverclyde Royal Infirmary but he died of his injuries in the early hours.

The boy was struck by a Peugeot 407 near to the junction with York Road.

The 44-year-old man who was driving the car was uninjured.

Sergeant Kenny Malaney, from the Paisley Divisional Road Policing Unit, said today: “This was a serious incident which has tragically resulted in the death of a young boy.

"Specialist officers are carrying out enquiries and my thoughts are with the family at this time. "Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the crash. Share article
