The defender didn't feature for FC Ufa after joining on loan in February

Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli is returning to the club after Russian side FC Ufa confirmed they have cancelled his loan deal.

The 26-year old moved to the Russian Premier League side in January after failing to establish himself at Parkhead.

Bolingoli struggled to make an impact at Celtic after breaching Covid restrictions by making an unsanctioned trip to Spain in 2020.

He was shipped out to Ufa for the second half of this season but has not played a minute for the club since arriving.

The club were unable to secure a work permit for Bolingoli due to complications involving Russia's recent invasion of Ukraine.

Ufa have now confirmed his loan deal has been terminated meaning he will return to Glasgow.

A club statement said: "By a joint decision, the employment contract between FC Ufa and Belgian defender Bolingoli Mbombo was terminated.

"In February of this year, Bolingoli was loaned from the Scottish Celtic, but he never made his debut for our team in official matches."
