Celtic condemn 'repeated targeting' of players after Ibrox draw

Celtic have hit out at the "repeated targeting" of their players after a glass bottle was thrown at Matt O'Riley during their draw with Rangers at Ibrox.

The object was launched from the stand while the midfielder was celebrating scoring a penalty on Sunday.

The club have raised concerns with their Old Firm rivals and describe the behvaiour as "completely unacceptable".

Police Scotland have also launched an enquiry into the incident.

A Celtic spokesperson said: “It has been confirmed today that a glass bottle was thrown at Matt at yesterday’s match.

“The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable.

“We have already raised our serious concerns with Rangers and understand that police are investigating the matter.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of an object being thrown at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow during the Rangers v Celtic match on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

“One man was struck but did not require treatment and enquiries are ongoing.”
