Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis will miss this weekend's Scottish Cup semi-final with Rangers after failing to recover from his hamstring problem in time.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou stated that the Greek's injury is not as bad as first feared after coming off in the first half against St Johnstone last week but confirmed he would miss Sunday's crucial game.

Postecoglou said: "The prognosis isn't anything too serious which is pleasing but it will probably keep him out this weekend.

"We are pretty confident he'll be available for next weekend."

It is a blow to the Hoops due to Giakoumakis' impressive form in recent months.

He was named March's Premiership Player of the Month and has 13 goals this campaign, with all but one of them coming in 2022.

However, David Turnbull, who was also deemed a doubt for the Glasgow Derby, has been passed fit to play.

The Hoops can also now turn to top goal scorer Kyogo Furuhashi, who returned to the pitch last weekend for the first time this year.

Postecoglou said the Japan international cannot play the whole match but is fit to feature from the start: "I don't think he's ready for 90 or 120 but he's ready to play.

"We trained pretty hard and he's matched those levels which means he's ready to play and that's the important thing."

Celtic meet Rangers at 2.30 at Hampden Park on Sunday.
