Hibs charged for fielding suspended player

Hibs face an SPFL disciplinary hearing today (July 21) after confirming they fielded a player in last night's League Cup group stage match with Greenock Morton who was subject to a one-match suspension.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with Morton picking up the bonus point via penalties.

A statement from the club said:

"During the final group stage match against Greenock Morton, the Club featured a player who was subject to a one-match suspension in the competition.

"There will be an SPFL hearing later today (Thursday 21 July, 2022) where the details will be discussed confidentially and an outcome will be reached."

And SPFL statement said:

"Hibernian have confirmed to the SPFL that they included a player in Wednesday’s Premier Sports Cup Group D game against Morton at Easter Road, who was subject to a one-match suspension in the competition."

League 2 side Stranrear have also been pulled up by the SPFL after confirming they had also included a player in their 2-2 draw with Forfar Athletic that was also subject to a ban.
