Next season's Ladbrokes Premiership campaign will kick-off over the weekend of August 4, the Scottish Professional Football League has announced.

SPFL bosses have also confirmed that they will be retaining the top-flight's winter break.

The details came as league chiefs announced a series of key dates for the 2018-19 season.

All four SPFL divisions will start on the weekend of Saturday August 4 - although the Premiership selections could be altered for television broadcasts.

The winter break will see the top-flight go into hiatus between Monday, December 31 and Friday, January 18.

The new season will kick-off with the group stage of the Betfred Cup, with five dates set aside between Saturday July 14 and July 28.

However, the competition's round of 16 will be played on Saturday, August 18, rather than the usual midweek slot, due to a change in dates of UEFA's competitions.

The first round of the IRN-BRU Cup is scheduled for Tuesday, August 14 and Wednesday, August 15.

Fixtures for the 2018-19 league Season will be published in mid-June.
