Man charged after Aberdeen FC's Ojo ‘assaulted’ at Dundee United match

The Belgian player was allegedly shoved by a fan at Tannadice yesterday

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged assault of Aberdeen FC player Funso Ojo during a match against Dundee United.

The 35-year-old man is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court following the reported incident at Tannadice Park on Saturday afternoon.

Dundee United confirmed it was investigating after the Belgian midfielder was sent off following the alleged assault.

He was allegedly shoved by a fan during the Scottish Premiership fixture.

Yesterday, a spokesperson for Dundee United said: “Dundee United can confirm that an investigation has commenced into an incident during today’s game. We will make no further comment at this time.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following an investigation into an incident which took place yesterday (Saturday, November 20, 2021) during the match between Dundee United Football Club and Aberdeen Football Club at Tannadice Park in Dundee, a 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the assault of an Aberdeen Football Club player.

“The man has been released on undertaking to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court at a later date.”
