Motherwell have sacked manager Steven Hammell after seven months in charge.

The Steelmen were beaten 3-1 by Championship side Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup Fifth Round on Saturday.

They have not won in the league since October and sit in 11th place in the Premiership.

Stuart Kettlewell will be in interim charge of the first-team until a permanent appointment is made.

Hammell was initially appointed caretaker manager in July 2022, following the departure of Graham Alexander.

He was announced as Alexander’s permanent successor one month later and had some initially positive results.

However, results tailed off as they failed to win a league game for four months, a run of 11 matches.

The Lanarkshire club have lost their last four games and are joint bottom of the table, sitting one place above the drop on goal difference.

There are fourteen games remaining in the league.

The Fir Park side face St Mirren on Wednesday.
