Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.

The Romanian international was forced off in Friday's 4-0 Scottish Cup win at home to Stirling Albion.

Ibrox boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has now revealed Hagi will miss the rest of the campaign.

He said: "He had to go off in the last game with an injury.

"We have assessed him in the last days and he needed an operation yesterday.

"He was operated on in London and we won't have Ianis for the season.

"That is a big blow for all of us and especially huge disappointment for Ianis.

"I spoke to him this morning and he is in a good place, he's of course not happy that he has the injury and needed to be operated on.

"But he is quite focused now and positive for his recovery - but we won't have him for months."

Giovanni van Bronckhorst admits the absence of Hagi is a huge loss, and says they're looking to bring in a replacement.

He said: "It's a big blow, he's an important player who is not available for the coming months.

"We are looking to add a player to the squad but it needs to be a player we think is right.

"You don't want a player who is just coming to make up the numbers.

"You want to have the balance in the team, but we are definitely looking to add a player in the coming days."
