Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Colombian forward picked up a thigh injury on international duty and was sent home early to be assessed.

Morelos sat out of Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Celtic, with his club now confirming he has undergone surgery.

The 25-year old is now not expected to feature for the Ibrox side again this season with his rehabilitation programme underway.

A Rangers statement read: "Following an injury sustained whilst on international duty with Colombia, Alfredo Morelos has undergone surgery to his thigh.

"Our medical team are pleased with the outcome of the operation and his rehabilitation programme is underway.

"He will return to training with the First Team squad during pre season. We wish him well during his rehabilitation."

Morelos has scored 18 goals in 42 appearances this season.

The forward will enter the final year of his contract in the summer with Giovanni van Bronckhorst facing a decision on his future.

Kemar Roofe deputised for Morelos in the weekend's loss to Celtic with another huge game against Braga just two days away.
