The United Kingdom will today hear who the next Prime Minister will be as the Conservative Party leadership outcome will be announced today (Monday) at lunchtime.

Either Foreign Secretary Liz Truss or former Chancellor Rishi Sunak will take the reins from Boris Johnson after he was forced to resign in the wake of the party-gate and Chris Pincher scandals.

160,000 Tory members cast their ballots, and Liz Truss is widely tipped to claim victory.

The pressure will be on the new PM to address the cost of living crisis immediately.

It is reported that Liz Truss is strongly considering freezing energy bills in a bid to ease the burden on households this winter.

It comes as energy bills may soar to £3,500 this winter for the average household.

The Queen will receive Mr Johnson on Tuesday at her Aberdeenshire home, where he will formally tender his resignation.

This will be followed by an audience with the new Tory leader, where she or he will be invited to form a government.
